When you need to approach important team discussions from a new angle, a new location can be just the solution. With A2D, discover our selection of secret conference facilities in Catalunya. Below, we explore one great example from our portfolio – Ribera del Duero in Spain.
Ribera del Duero – ‘the Sonoma of Spain’ – is located within Castilla y León (Spain’s largest autonomous region) and is home to over 300 wineries and 2,300 labels. It’s a region that’s heavily focused on the tempranillo red wine grape variety.
When staying here, your main location will be the Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine del Duero winery and luxury hotel, 1.5 hours from Madrid Barajas airport.
The Winery
Abadía Retuerta has been in modern operation for 30 years and its site has a winemaking tradition running back more than 800 years (when the founding monks of the abbey began the cultivation of vines for wine). Indeed, the Ribera region already had a long winemaking tradition when the monks first established the estate.
The Abadía Retuerta winery is one of the most prestigious in the area. Because of the constant availability of water from the river Duero, which the winery runs down to, the vineyards have unique growing conditions that make for incredible wines.
The Hotel
The hotel on-site is a 12th-century Romanesque converted abbey and forms part of the winery estate. The rooms in the hotel (located in the monastery’s old hostelry) have views of the multiple vineyards, making it a colourful and peaceful haven. The estate also includes a spa and was recently named “Best Luxury Historical Spa” in Europe at 2022 World Luxury Spa Awards.
Here, you can enjoy breakfasts and dinners in the Cloister Garden each day, to enjoy the peaceful and serene surroundings. Indeed, the open-air terrace itself is full of history and served as a source of inspiration for the monks who once lived in the abbey.
Your Itinerary: Experiences & Activities
An itinerary at Abadía Retuerta can include many things. The team there offer exciting and varied hands-on experiences, such as:
- Taking part in activities related to the harvest (including a chance to tread grapes!)
- A guided wine tasting with an expert sommelier
- Wild mushroom hunting and learning about the wild mushrooms and their characteristics
- e-Bike and bike tours of the surrounding countryside
- Hot air balloon rides.
Of course, the visit would not be complete without a winery tour and tasting run by the sommelier!
Meeting Facilities
Alongside these exciting activities, you’ll have time to integrate team meetings into your itinerary. The winery has:
- Professional and up-to-date meeting facilities with work-appropriate furniture, essential technology and business amenities
- Four meeting rooms to choose from and each can be configured differently to accommodate larger or smaller groups. The biggest room takes up to 200 people seated, while the smallest room is comfortable for up to 20 people standing.
With A2D, we put together your travel itinerary from start to finish and alongside organising transport door-to-door from your location right to the winery estate, we also schedule in time for informal catch-ups among your team with a welcome reception and dinner and meals together.
